SECONDARY SCHOOL PROGRAM
Tangalooma EcoMarines offers a FREE secondary school program for schools based in Southeast Queensland. Each school appoints an EcoMarines teacher and four student EcoMarines ambassadors to lead various environmental activities or 'challenges.’ We provide challenge ideas and resources to inspire the ambassadors to run fun and engaging activities within the school and community.
We work closely with the teacher and student ambassadors to help with activities, speak at school assemblies, and run events throughout the year. Our events are a great way to network with other schools and the wider community. Students learn about the environment and cultural significance of our region and have the opportunity to visit some islands in Moreton Bay.
EcoMarines ambassadors are having a positive influence in their schools and local communities. They are acquiring environmental, communication and leadership skills and taking action across southeast Queensland. They're reducing plastics and litter in our waterways and contributing to long-term positive change for Moreton Bay.

HOW IT WORKS
1. BOOK AN APPOINTMENT
Please contact us if you would like more information. We are happy to visit the school for a 30 minute presentation to anyone interested in EcoMarines.
There are no rules or requirements with the program and we run things a bit differently at each school.
2. APPOINT AN ECOMARINES TEACHER(S)
Teachers are BUSY people!
Fortunately for us, we always seem to have interest from at least one teacher in the school who is passionate about the environment.
All our 'support crew teachers' love being part of the program. Teachers usually hold weekly meetings with the environment group.
Through participation in this program I have seen my students grow both socially and academically and engage with the world around them.
They have become environmentally aware, socially responsible and have grown in confidence.
I would highly recommend this program to other schools.
Teacher, Park Lake State School
3. APPOINT 4 ECOMARINES AMBASSADORS
Appoint 4 students who are passionate about the environment and want to make a difference!
These can be any students from grades 7-12.
We will help you through this process and provide an application form template to help select ambassadors.
Some schools get creative with applications (e.g. speech or video application).
Example video application
4. CHALLENGE KIT
You will be given access to a kit full of ideas, challenges and resources you can use (posters, certificates, videos, etc.)
Some challenges include: Spread the Word video competition, Eco-friendly Fete, Go Green for EcoMarines Day, Clean-up Club, Wrapper Free Lunches, etc.
5. SCHOOL VISIT & SUPPORT CREW
Once the 4 ambassadors are appointed, we will announce them at assembly with their shirts and explain to the school how the EcoMarines program works.
NOTE: Although there are only 4 ambassadors, most schools include other interested students as 'support crew' who attend the weekly meetings and help run activities in the school.
None of our events are mandatory, but you won't want to miss them!
We organise 4 events throughout the year; 2 are on school days (organised through the school) and 2 are on weekends (organised directly with parents).
