ADVOCATE PATRON

UNCLE BOB ANDERSON, Ngugi Elder, Mulgumpin (Moreton Island)

Dr Robert Anderson, known as Uncle Bob, is a well-respected Ngugi Elder from Mulgumpin in Quandamooka, South East Queensland.

The Quandamooka people are salt water people and are the Traditional Owners who live around Moreton Bay. They are the Nunukul, the Goenpul and the Ngugi peoples.

Native Title was formally recognised on Minjerribah and surrounding islands in Moreton Bay on the 4th July 2011 and for Mulgumpin on the 27th November 2019 by the Federal Court of Australia.

"I am very proud to be an Advocate Patron for the EcoMarines program which educates students to protect the waterways and environs of Moreton Bay and their local area to create and maintain a healthy environment for marine creatures such as Buangun, Zungun and Binkin.

It is a great joy for me to see the children learning about how to care for the Land and Seaways and I am pleased to embrace them as Associate Custodians, Caring for Country."

Jandai language translation:

Buangun, dolphin

Zungun, dugong

Binkin, turtle
