PLANTS FOR THE PLANET

Gardening or growing plants is super important to help improve our environments! Get your centre involved in growing some plants for the planet, whether that be a garden bed or a few pot plants. This is a good challenge to get your kids' hands dirty and develop respect for our ecosystems.

HOW IT WORKS

STEP 1.

Decide what types of plants your centre will grow! We have a great planting guide to help you decide what is best for your centre!

It is important to take into account your center's garden space or pot space when deciding what to plant. If you need support with funds for gardening materials, a good way to raise money is with a community fundraiser or even recycle drink containers with the Containers for Change Refund Scheme. You could even apply for free native plants if your school is within the Brisbane City Council area.

STEP 2.
Get planting for the planet!

If you are thinking of planting in pots, why not recycle something to make into a pot? Here are some ideas:

  • An old rubbish bin with holes drilled in the bottom

  • A hessian bag

  • A tire

  • Smaller plants can be put in cans, milk bottles and even plastic bottles with the top cut off!

Make sure you follow the instructions for each plants. Afterwards, your centre can create a roster to make sure there is someone on duty each day to maintain and water your plants! This is good way to get your kids involved in taking care of your Plants for the Planet!

STEP 3.

Keep a photo journal! Take Plant Selfies with your EcoMarines kids and your new plants at different stages of growth.

We would love to see your centre's photo journal so send us an email and you might be able to win some new plants for your centre!
